Detox Diary – Day One

Okay, so yesterday was my first day of detox.

Breakfast
Porridge with raisins and dried apricot
1 glass of orange juice

Morning
2 glasses of water
Sunflower seeds

Lunch
Vegetable broth
Natural ‘live’ yoghurt with Satsuma
1 glass of water

Afternoon
1 glass of water
1 cup of herbal tea

Dinner
Vegetable Bolognese with mashed potato

Evening
Natural Yoghurt sweetened with honey
Plain popcorn
3 Glasses of Water

It hasn’t been too bad as I normally eat this kind of thing. I have really missed having something ’solid’ to chew on and make me feel like I’m filled up. I could have really done with some sweet flapjack!
Felt slightly better after having honey with yoghurt as the instant sugar gave me a pick-up.
Drinking so much water was the most difficult thing as almost had to force it down. Didn’t feel thirsty at all.
Now need to try and find a recipe for something more solid and chewy and I’ll be okay for the week.

Lent Sacrifices

Okay, I am a little late with this, and have also shamelessly stolen the idea off my brother’s blog – but hey, I think it’s a good idea worth sharing.

Lent is traditionally a time when Christians fast to think about Jesus and his sacrifice for us at Easter.
However, I feel like it’s often become a time when people give up things (TV, facebook, chocolate, meat) just for the sake of it and not really focussing on why they do it.
That’s why I don’t give anything up, which probably makes me just as bad!

Anyway, Christian Aid’s Lent Resources this year encourages us to count our blessings and then bless others by doing something to help those not as fortunate. Each day there is an activity to carry out (e.g 52p could pay for a notebook, pen, pencil, sharpener and chalk, allowing a woman or child to attend literacy classes in Afghanistan. Give 52p for each personal email or note you wrote today).

We have such unimaginable wealth in the West. Why not really think about lent this year. Jesus made such a sacrifice for us –we should be more than willing to make such a small sacrifice for him, and for others around the world.
