Josh’s birthday fun – day one (Tuesday)

24 Mar

Wow, how busy can I get without my head exploding and making an unsightly mark on the church office ceiling? Things have been manic in both personal and work life and so I haven’t had time to even think about posting until now.

A whole week has passed since our yurt experience began and it already feels like a lifetime ago. All the beautiful spring whether has disappeared as well, to be replaced by the predictable Welsh rain…booo…hiss.

ANYWAY, I shall endeavour to remember what happened a week ago with the help of some photos!

So, last Tuesday I took Josh off for a mini-break as a surprise for his birthday. We didn’t go far, just down the coast a little to near the border of Pembrokeshire. I told him we were going to go for a picnic in this random little site near Carmarthen having packed the car and bought the food the night before.

I always complain to Josh that he never notices things that need clearing up in the house, but he always denies that he walks right by things without seeing them, but last week proved to him that he doesn’t notice anything! I managed to pack and plan everything right under his nose and he didn’t have a clue!

We had a lovely walk in the beautiful sunshine around the countryside of mid-Wales – we even walked without coats which is the first time this year!

I had planned it all so that the place we were staying was on the way to the picnic site so I was able to drive past it and scout out the route in the morning, so at about four o’clock we set off to drive back to Aber…

Except that about fifteen minutes later we turned off down this little, dusty farm track…

Note here that Josh still didn’t even realise that anything was going on, he believed me when I said I had thought that this was the right way to go!!!

We were greeted by the lovely Tony who showed us around Larkhill Tipis

And introduced us to our home for the next two nights! The Bentwood yurt! (apparently it’s actually a Ger which is different from a yurt as it’s used in Afghanistan or something – correct me if you know differently!)

We were the only ones at the site which made the time even more special as we could walk around the whole area at our leisure without worrying about interrupting anyone else. We spent the evening exploring and then I cooked vegetable Bolognese on the stove, and then ate outside.

Then we lit a camp fire outside the yurt, roasted marshmallows and looked at the billions of stars that lit up the sky.

It was amazing!

Check back tomorrow – hopefully I’ll have had time to upload more photos by then

I’m sorry about the random assortment of photos at the bottom. They are meant to be half way through but wordpress is being ANNOYING, and I’m going to have to go home and breathe into a paper bag before I throw a stapler at the computer!!!

That looks amazing. What fun – and as for Josh not seeing things, if he’s anything like mine, he will only see what he wants to see, which usually relates to whatever he is doing at the time. Anything else = invisible.

it is wonderful there, have been there a few times and it’s just as good the third time as the first time, going back again in July. Can’t wait.

Just a comment about the place when others are there. We have enjoyed it, one time everyone was very social and added to the experience, on another time it was less social, but we still had the whole place to ourselves (it felt like it). Some people however seem to love to stay in the cabin during the day which is a shame as it is a escape hatch back to towny normality. It always seemed too safe for me.

Have been there in the rain too, it’s not so bad (it was summer rain and not too cold), but beware the frogs! Billions of em!

Great blog, I don’t say that too often!
