About Rachel

I’m Rachel.  I’m in my twenties and I’m married to Josh. We live in Aberystwyth in Wales, while we dream of one day having our own little slice of the country…
I grew up in a small Dartmoor village and I’m a proud 100% born and bred Devonian. When I was 13 my parents moved to the East Devon Coast where I spent the rest of my teenage years.
Josh and I met pretty much as soon as I moved house at 13 but we didn’t really notice each other for another 4 years. We got together when I was 17 and got married in August 2007, when I was 20.

I moved to Aberystwyth in Wales to go to university when I was 18 to study Countryside Management. However, having left university I now have a completely unrelated admin job in a local church in Aberystwyth.

The most important decision I have ever made was to become a Christian at the age of 14. Everything I do is focused on God and how I can glorify Him more.

This blog is way of keeping in touch with old friends and making new ones, so please do comment if you’re stopping by for the first time.

Dreaming of the Country doesn’t really fit into a blog mould. It has a bit of everything. We love wildlife, walking and exploring, photography, good food and laughter and so that will be mixed in with our attempts at simple living too, along with all those other random extras life tends to throw in along the way.

Hi. Lovely blog. Really love the way you write, it sounds just like you are talking straight to me! Hope the owners of your dream house sell it to you for 20p – I had a dream house…. I didn’t manage to buy it but I do now live in a dream house that is lost in time and full of wildlife. Some things just take a little while… Jane

    Hi Rachel and Josh,

A random search for the perfect flapjack recipe spewed up your blog onto my screen! Having taken your recipe, completely changed it (maybe ruined it, but we’ll see when Chloe gets home and we try it) and finished the cleaning up, I returned to read more.

I love it! Particularly your conversation with the hairdresser! I have been without the TV for 4 years now – Chloe has got used to it, and we love going for random walks in the evening or inventing/changing card games. A client of mine could NOT believe that we lived without a TV. Her question, “..but how do you get to sleep at night?” actually had me lost for words!!!

All the best – you’re cool to me!

Hi Jane, thanks for your lovely comment. I’m sure we’ll find our perfect home one day!

Ant – thanks for reading and commenting! Random walks are the BEST! I honestly don’t think we’ll ever go back to having a TV. We watch films on the laptop and don’t miss TV at all!

    Hi Rachel,
A g-mail search for creamy veg pasta/soup brought your blog. I must say you come across as a very warm person with a passion for life & living. Really enjoyed reading it. Fortunately, I intend to be in Aberyswyth in August so I look forward to meeting the Nightlife crew. Can you recommend any B&B or chalets very close to the Uni that can accommodate up to 5 adults & 9 children, please? It could be 2 units but in the same place?

Holy Cow!!! I just found your blog via a comment you left on another blog. When I saw that you were from Aberystwyth, Wales, I freaked out!! I’m from the States, born and bred, but I’ve visted Wales twice now with my college choir and LOVE IT. I’ve spent a day in Aberystwyth, and I LOVED it so much! (That’s where my favorite wool sweater and jacket come from.) My mother even has a teddy bear named Aberystwyth, so she would always remember where it came from. Hearing that name made me all smiles. If I could afford it, I’d take my husband to visit so he could experience it too. It’s been YEARS since I’ve been now, but it still holds a place in my heart! (Sorry if this comment freaked you out…i’m not a stalker…just excited) 🙂

What a pretty blog you have! And I’ve never met anyone from Wales so I was excited to see that in your bio.

Thanks for stopping by today and leaving a comment!
